DISCIPLESHIP

The Great Commission is not one-fold, but two-fold. Discipleship and Salvation. Every disciple in our ministry reads the 5 pages in the drop down menu above. In them my spiritual father, Brother Greg Mullins, whom The Lord birthed the discipleship aspect of our ministry through says, it is not that people have no idea about God and the things of God, but that they have a bunch of wrong ideas.

It is the same with Biblical Discipleship and Salvation. Our definitions and applications of these things need to be given us by the revelation of the Word of God, not the preconceived traditions of men (see Mark 7:13). The first aspect of the Great Commission was given by Jesus Himself in Matthew 28:16-20.

[16] Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. [17] When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. [18] And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ā€œAll authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.ā€ Amen. — Matthew 28:16-20 NKJV

Discipleship is the Biblical model or method of spiritual training. Jesus was not speaking here to the religious leaders in the Temple or synogogues of the day. He gave this Commission to eleven men whom He had poured into and raised up in life and ministry during His own earthly ministry.

Now that the resurrected Jesus was ascending to the right hand of Majesty on High, He delegated the Ministry He had received from His Father to those who had been trained by Him to do as He did. Not so they could keep the spiritual training to themselves, but so they could impart that training to others. Discipleship is an element of the Father’s Kingdom which Jesus brought to earth and continues today.

SALVATION

The second aspect of the Great Commision is found in Mark 16:15-18, and it includes Salvation in every area of life : spirit, soul, body, materially, financially, socially, etc.

[15] And He [Jesus] said to them, ā€œGo into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. [16] He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. [17] And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; [18] they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.ā€ — Mark 16:15-18 NKJV

Again, the fullness of the Great Commision is not Discipleship or Salvation – it is the balance, combination and skill of applying both true Discipleship and Salvation to our lives. The first is centered on the teaching to observe or obey “all that I [Jesus] commanded you”; the second is focused on the preaching of the Gospel and producing the fruit of living by faith.

[16] For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. [17] For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ā€œBut the righteous man shall live by faith.ā€ — Romans 1:16-17 NASB95

Salvation includes the restoration and recovery of everything Adam lost in the Garden through sin, death, the devil and the curse.

If Salvation is being brought out of all the bad – The Blessing brings us into all the Good! Salvation and the Blessing that follows is a free gift, a finished work, paid in full by Jesus – to be received Today according to our faith (see Ephesians 2:8). They both belong to every child of God as their inheritance as members of the Family of God in Christ.

WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP?

On a practical level, Discipleship is being disciplined by a man or woman of God with the Word of God to do the things of God. It is not life-controlling but life-changing as a result of the power of the Word and our adherence to it as First Place and Final Authority. It is not just a change to our circumstances and situations, but to our person. Our person is being brought into conformity to Christ – Halleujah! – until we are just like Jesus.

[24] “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor is a servant or slave above his master. [25] It is sufficient for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant or slave like his master. …” — Jesus, Matthew 10:24-25a AMPC

Christ has made us Kings and Priests to our God (see Revelation 1:6, 5:10). It takes time in application and alteration to step into the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (see Philippians 3:14). Jesus is the King of kings and the Heavenly High Priest on whom our attention, affection and direction is set. He is also the Bridegroom, coming soon and suddenly. Those who answer the Call, become the Chosen and are counted Faithful – these shall be His Bride on that day (see Revelation 17:14).

Discipleship is a process, a life long one, which will not be thoroughly concluded until our tour of duty on earth has run its course. Whether that be at the Rapture of the living or the death of one’s body (see 1 Corinthians 15:51). Jesus knows we need all the help we can get while down here and He knows Discipleship is the best way to provide that help. That is why it is the Great Commission, not the Great Suggestion.

We give God thanks and we magnify our ministry, for there are many who claim Discipleship, but lack both the Anointing and Authority to carry it out. It is not just what is done in the name of ‘discipleship’ but how it is done and by whom that qualifies as Biblical Discipleship (see Matthew 23:15). You cannot disciple others if you have not been discipled properly yourself.

HOW IT WORKS

Discipleship is Biblical training in lining up our entire lives with the Word and Spirit’s leading. And the results are glorious! Submission to God ordained, spiritual authority with anointing is essential to discipleship being effective as God designed it to be. It is not bondage, it is liberty! Though your flesh hates the Cross, your spirit man craves the discipline of a godly life : it is a Divine safety net to our spiritual journey.

The responsibility of the 5-fold Ministry Gifts is to equip, edify, unify, enlighten and mature the rest of the Body of Christ. This only occurs by the Anointing He has placed on them by which the Word they minister becomes the Anointed Word, “the word of Christ” (see Ephesians 4:7-16, Romans 10:17). One can only be used by God in spiritual matters to the degree he or she makes room for the Spirit of God in agreement with the Word of God.

Not everyone is called to stand behind a pulpit, so to speak – but everybody is called to something. And you need the Spirit’s help to do it! Jesus said it this way,

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” — John 6:63 NASB95

The Power of the Spirit shows up to Confirm the Word with miracles, signs and wonders [as He wills], and to Magnify Jesus [in our testimony]. Paul echoed Jesus’ words in relation to the Kingdom of God within us when he said,

“For the kingdom of God does not consist in [mere natural, human] words but in power.” — 1 Corinthians 4:20 NASB95

The Anointing is a measure of the Spirit’s Presence and power to accomplish God’s Kingdom purposes in the earth and people’s lives (see Romans 14:13). What it does is affect change in bringing all things into agreement with God’s Word and His Will. The Anointing is required by the disciplers, it is not an option. We are all imperfect vessels pursuing the perfection of Christ.

The Anointing comes only from the Spirit of God in relation to a Divine Call or Office, properly standing in that place and following His leading. Jesus’ Words and the spiritual principles and Biblical truths found throughout all of Scripture equip us for life and godliness in Christ Jesus.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” — 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV

Before they were released to disciple nations or preach the Gospel, Jesus told them to wait in Jerusalem until they had received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (see Luke 24:49 & Acts 1:8). Without Power from on High, we will not produce the fruit Jesus intended us to produce for the Glory of His Father (see John 15).

We are no longer waiting for the Spirit to come, He already came as recorded in Acts 2 on the Day of Pentacost, with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. It is up to us to receive. The Spirit’s Power is essential unless we are to reduce the Great Commission to intellectual prowess or carnal theatrics – both of which have no spiritual value or eternal reward on their own. None.

COUNT THE COST

Whether it is disciples stateside or ministers who oversee churches and schools outside the United States – we only take on the Fully Committed after they have proven themselves faithful with the little things of doing what they are told according to the Word. It is for everybody, but many will not pay the price. Many are called, few are chosen.

What does it cost to be Discipled? Nothing, and yet everything. But not anything Jesus has not already prove Himself willing to do for us. He laid down His all so that we could receive all from Him by faith. It is only fair we give Him our all.

We do not require a specific dollar amount per student as others are led to do in their Bible schools and training; nor are there package deals. Unless The Lord says, you do not have to live nearby either. There is no time or distance in the spiritual realm. But do not be confused or afraid : God has something to say about everything, including money. It is just one of many parts of what being a true Disciple of Jesus really means.

If you sense the Spirit’s prompting to be Discipled here, we love you! But we won’t make you do anything. The Call to Discipleship is available to all – just like Salvation. You have to choose to come in of your own accord. That is what makes those who are conformed to Christ so precious in His sight. They want to do it . .
